Acetate Light
Acetate Light, 2015, is constructed of unusable cellulose acetate dating from the 1950’s and 60’s more conventionally used in the manufacture of eyewear frames, given by ‘Algha’ in Hackney Wick. The material has a natural level of transparency thanks to the manufacturing process used that ensures the patterns design is suspended within the material rather than on the surface. This makes it ideal for ‘diffusing light’ giving these initially just decorative features a new life and purpose. By laminating the material under pressure made it possible to mitigate the warping of the aged acetate. The project is made in collaboration with Parsha Gerayesh.
